Beta Gamma Epsilon

Beta Gamma Epsilon extends its condolences, thoughts and prayers to the victims and families of the tragic events that occurred on Marathon Monday. As we grieve with our city, we would like to thank the citizens, first responders, police, National Guard and other government agencies for their heroic actions and diligent efforts in keeping us safe.

The house received a major update last summer with the reconstruction of the roof. This was a huge accomplishment for the brotherhood and the Alumni Association, who worked very hard to raise funds and complete the project. This work will ensure that we may enjoy our home on Commonwealth Avenue for many years to come. Below is a photo of the crane used to hoist materials up 4 floors to the roof.

The brotherhood gathered for its annual Thanksgiving dinner this past fall, giving thanks for the house we call a home and the health and happiness of our brothers and families. Two deep fried turkeys along with a collection of succulent sides left the brothers in a sleepy bliss. As we approached final exams, it was a relaxing and joyful evening spent amongst friends.

Another holiday season has come and gone, and the brotherhood gathered once again for its annual Christmas dinner. Brothers donned their formal wear while their dates looked stunning in their holiday dresses. The night proceeded with eating, dancing and celebrating the successful ending to another semester. As always, the Christmas dinner was one of the highlights of 2012 and continues to be a favorite of the brothers.

During the Fall 2012 semester, brothers volunteered with the American Diabetes Association in their annual Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes event. Members assisted with the teardown of the event at the Boston Commons after thousands of walkers gathered to raise funds and awareness for diabetes research. BGE was pleased to develop its relationship with the ADA, and will be looking to participate in other events with them.

Brothers took a trip to Skyzone in January to take a break from their school work and have some fun. Huge floors of trampolines had the men of BGE feeling like kids again, jumping and flipping through the air. There is even a trampoline dodgeball arena! If you are looking to get some exercise and have a lot of fun, we highly recommend taking a trip over to Skyzone Boston.

This past weekend Beta Gamma Epsilon volunteered in part with the American Lung Association during their annual Fight for Air Climb at One Boston Place. In this fundraiser for the ALA, participants jogged up 82 flights of stairs, finishing on the 41st floor. Stationed at the finish line, brothers staffed the recovery area for the thousands of climbers, passing out water and directing traffic. Many fire departments participated in the event, with firefighters lugging 75 pounds of gear up the stairs with them.

A group of brothers attended the Mike Phelpsie 41st annual ski trip in New Hampshire where they took part in a weekend of fellowship, skiing and hiking. They enjoyed meeting the alumni from the 70s and early 80s and hearing stories of brotherhood and of the house. They shared their own stories of the current active chapter and brought fraternity apparel to distribute. The brothers were pleased to discover that over time not a whole lot about BGE has changed. The aspects of brotherhood that drew the alumni to the fraternity during their college days still stand strong today.

As we progress through another semester at Northeastern University, the brothers of Beta Gamma Epsilon are enjoying the mild weather of a very uncharacteristic spring semester. The harsh winters that we have come to expect have not yet happened upon us, making it even easier to count down the days till summer. This semester brings with it our newest members. We would like to welcome and congratulate newly initiated brothers Jack McCullough, Deniz Ozkaynak, and Sean Holmes.
